The Book of Esther is the only Bible book besides Ruth that is named after a woman. It is also unique in that it never mentions the name of God. Yet the theme of the book is profound: God in his providential wisdom has power over individuals and history. And in Esther’s case, God does so through a girl that has gone her own way.

In Espresso With Esther, Sandra Glahn explores lesser-known facts about this young woman whose courageous actions helped save an exiled people from impending genocide. Espresso With Esther is a five-week study to be read in short, daily segments that examine each chapter of Esther and encourage readers to make applications to their own lives. Sandra has adapted this study on Esther in such a convenient way that it can be read during brief lulls in our daily schedules that present opportunities for meditation and study (breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks, etc.).

Each weekly study in Espresso With Esther begins with an introduction to be done on Sundays, followed by five days of studying Scripture and making pertinent life applications along the way. The weekly studies are concluded with fitting devotional readings to be read on Saturdays. These devotionals contain an overview of what has been studied throughout the week along with some closing thoughts and a prayer.

Sandra’s unconventional thought processes regarding Esther are sprinkled throughout the study as she shatters preconceived myths about this legendary character of the Bible. As a result, more emphasis is placed on Esther’s vulnerabilities and the fact that she was a flawed person whom God chose to use for His greater glory.
