Perhaps once in a century a book comes along that is so insightful it is frightening. Why Don't Women Understand Men, unfortunately, is not such a book. However, this may be the best book written on the subject of man-woman relationships, in the last several days.
Bob Hansen has collected dozens of stories relating to the quirks of life that seem to continually happen around him. As an example, he offers the following comment from his wife, "It's a good thing I didn't see you eat a salad before we got married." That was the simple statement that opened Bob Hansen's door to the world of humor.
From that point, Bob went on to write expositions on the place of the napkin in our culture, a treatise on various styles of eating spaghetti and their relative values, and practical tips for corporations on how to make the shopping experience more male-friendly.
Bob freely admits that much of his humor has its roots in the glorious, though often puzzling, differences with which God has blessed the genders. It is these differing points of view that add spice to what would otherwise be a dull life. This book is a celebration of those baffling peculiarities.
Yes, the author has made fun of his wife, his kids, his pets, and himself, but it's only because he doesn't really understand much at all of life. But don't be too hard on this poor man. When you have read, and laughed, or at least smiled, perhaps you will find that buried in the humor are just the beginning parts of wisdom--but only the beginning parts.
While the stories are written with lightness, they still have spiritual applications.
