Perhaps you've been fighting with your spouse and kids all week and seeing happy families sitting in church pews multiplies your despair. Maybe church brings back painful childhood memories. Maybe you feel church is more about activities than relationships. Maybe you're embroiled in a conflict with someone at church and want to avoid seeing him or her. Maybe there is a clique in the church and you're not a part of the so-called "in" group. Maybe you feel worse after the church service than before it began.

Sometimes you can feel the furthest from God when sitting in a church service. Perhaps you never feel lonelier than when you attend church. But why?

By talking with hundreds of people and having dozens of contributors, Pat Palau and PeggySue Wells share what others have to say about what others do when they face the situation of "not wanting to go to church."

  • They interview adult children and discover how their parents approached not wanting to go to church.
  • They talk with prodigals and find what brought them back to church.
  • They explore the deep wounds and conflict that occurs within the church and family and provide hope, help, and encouraging ideas.
