About the Author

Merrill Frederick Unger was born in Maryland in 1909. He received his BA from John Hopkins University, a Th.M. and Th.D. from Dallas Theological Seminary, and then returned to John Hopkins to earn his Ph.D. in Hebrew and Semitic languages. After laboring as a pastor in several churches, he served one year as professor of Hebrew at Gordon College. Then Dallas Seminary president Dr. John Walvoord then asked Unger to replace Dr. Charles Feinberg as head of the Hebrew department at the seminary. Dr. Unger agreed and served as professor of Semitics and Old Testament at Dallas Theological Seminary from 1948 to 1967. Dr. Unger continued to energetically serve the Lord in speaking and writing until his death in 1980.
