God Is... has a simple name, but its goal is anything but simple. The task of describing the character of God is a monumental one. The question at the heart of this study is, "When I think about God, what am I thinking about?" All of us probably understand some truths about God, but most of us haven't come close to seeing the whole picture. Discovering who God is, is a tough task that becomes even more difficult when we try to make sense of the characteristics of God that seem to be at odds with each other. How can God be both huge and personal? How can he be both holy and gracious? How can he be both our Father and a jealous God? How can he be both God of the ordinary and a mysterious God? Eugene Peterson once made the statement that "discipleship is a decision to follow God based on what we know about him and not what we feel about him." As we learn to think correctly about God, our lives change. God Is... examines some of the attributes of God, paradoxes and all, and explores what they can mean in our lives and how they can change us.
