Throughout human history, thoughtful people have recognized three fundamental truths: the existence of God . . . the corruption of human nature . . . and a moral law. Yet, like potent chemicals these three ingredients are seldom combined. Why are they kept in isolation? This book provides a convincing answer. When taken together, they lead inevitably to a disturbing conclusion.
Can God forgive immoral people without ignoring the moral laws? Searching for Answers examines prevailing philosophies and world religions, to see whether any of these approaches solves this universal dilemma. The first five chapters scrutinize history, philosophy, and religions for forgiveness searching for answers to the common thirst for forgiveness. The concluding chapter articulates a rational solution—one that lets God both forgive and punish immoral acts.
Searching for Answers can be understood by a seventh grade student, and yet, is pointed to the college-educated seeker. The book is also written for new Christians, who have made a faith commitment without resolving all their intellectual questions. It will help them develop an integrated Christian worldview, combining biblical teachings with sound insights from general revelation.
The first five chapters do not cite thinkers who are Christians, but rely heavily on modern thinkers, scientists, and philosophers who question Christianity.
-
Scripture is not introduced until the final chapter once all alternative solutions have been rejected.
