The truths in 1 John are primarily for children of God. It is a family epistle. John also gives careful attention to the believer's responsibilities to be in fellowship with God. The book has in it both positives and negatives with respect to the behavior of the child of God.

Both 2 John and 3 John have themes of love and truth. Second John seems to emphasize Christian love with its foundation in truth. Third John, on the other hand, seems to emphasize truth with its foundation in Christian love. Truth is not absent in 2 John; neither is love absent in 3 John. Rather, it is a matter of a different emphasis in these two letters.

Jude's purpose in writing was to warn his readers about false teaching and to encourage the believers to defend "the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints" (v. 3).

A series of study questions at the end of each chapter is designed to enable the reader to study the details of the book of Jude on their own or in a group setting.
