Cornerstone of My Character

He didn’t like his chances. After writing a “goodbye letter,” sleep eluded him as he went over the mission in his mind. He wondered if twenty years in prison would be worth it if he refused to go. He then thought about one of his good friends who was still out there in that landing zone, waiting:

We had come into the unit together and he was now stranded down there and needed help. If I were in his shoes I sure would want someone trying their very best to come get me out. I made the decision to fight and unknowingly set in place one of the cornerstones of my character.

Every one of our decisions should be considered prayerfully before God, and, with his help, all its possible ramifications. When Jesus is in our hearts, we know we will never go too far wrong—we know the ultimate cornerstone of our character is in place.
