Ticket to the World

In 1992 Ty Dodge and his wife, Florence, attended their first 11th Cavalry reunion in San Antonio, Texas. She was looking over a row of tables in the banquet room when she found a handwritten note that said simply, “My name is Chaplain Gene Allen, 1st Cav, FSB Buttons. I did a lot with the 11th when they were attacked outside the berm at Buttons. Call me if you remember.” With his heart in his throat, Dodge made the phone call. After twenty-three years, he had found one of the men who saved his life.

Dodge soon realized the reunion site was, by chance, in the place where the chaplain had retired. The chaplain happened to be doing a seminar in the same Holiday Inn on the same day when he noticed the 11th Cavalry poster in the lobby. These random circumstances gave Dodge a chance to thank someone who had saved his life.

Fortunately for us, there is no uncertainty about the identity of and means of contacting our “ticket to the next world.” We know our Savior by name, and we know he has already done all that is necessary to ensure our safe passage to be with him in eternity.
